How to Fit Harness

Tug 'N' Hug Easy On/Off No-Pull Harness

Measure completely around the large part of the pet's rib cage. Match the number of inches to the correct size on the order form. Make sure that it is a snug type of measurement. If the measurement is 1” from the upper end of a size, then go up to the next size on the chart. Notify me when ordering so I can make some adjustments. I like to have the harnesses have room for both up and down in the sizing.

Fit1.jpgStep 1. Adjust the shoulder straps, then check to see if both sides have the same length. The triglides will be the same length on each side from the ‘D’ ring. Then slip the ‘V’ over the head while holding on to the back portion of the harness on the back of the pet. The back top portion of the harness will lay just behind the upper shoulder blades.
The bottom of the ‘V’ section and belly strap (join together on the ‘D’ ring) center on the point of the front chest.

Only for the No-Pull Body Harness -- On the top back of the harness - Look at the ‘D’ ring and the ‘O’ ring that attaches to the snap hook; the rolled webbing should only face one direction. Notice the rolled smooth side and the edges that are sewn together. Only the rolled smooth side will lie next to the body of the pet facing toward the front of the pet; the sewn together edges will face up toward you or toward the tail end of the pet. They lay flat with no twisting, look at the picture to see how the placement should look. This is the correct position for the no-pull action of the harness.

Step 3. Adjust the body straps evenly on each side for a snug fit; you should be able to slip your fingers under the body strap. The body design of the harness is made to fit on the large part of the rib cage; away from the armpit areas. Depending on the size of the pet this will vary in the number of inches between the front legs and the body strap (1-1/2 inches to 10 inches). If the harness slips from side to side then the harness is to loose…readjust.
When the harness is new it will take several adjustment for the webbing to lay flat against the hardware and conform to the body.

Make sure there are no twists in the straps, then bring up the belly strap and snap the buckles together. The belly strap should not pull the body strap forward, but snug enough to cause the shoulder strap to lie against the shoulders. The body strap should fit straight around the rib cage, not at an angle. Refer to the picture of the side view of harness.

Regular Basic Easy On/Off Harness with Neoprene Padding

Step 1. Measure completely around the large part of the pet's rib cage. Match the number of inches to the correct size on the order form.

Step 2. The first adjustment will be on the body strap. Unsnap buckles and place the "V" shoulder straps over the head and bring down on the body. Adjust the body straps evenly on each side to a snug fit; you should be able to slip your fingers under the body strap. The body design of the harness is made to fit on the large part of the rib cage; away from the armpit areas. Depending on the size of the pet this will vary in the number of inches between the front legs and the body strap (1-1/2 inches to 10 inches). If the harness slips from side to side then the harness is to loose.

Step 3. The second adjustments are the shoulder straps. Be sure to adjust each side evenly. The bottom of the "V" should lie on the point of the chest. Adjust the neoprene shoulder padding to fit comfortably over the shoulders.

Step 4. The last adjustment is the belly strap. The belly strap should not pull the body strap forward, but snug enough to cause the shoulder strap to lie against the shoulders. The body strap should fit straight around the rib cage, not at an angle. Adjust the neoprene belly padding to fit in center under the belly area.
It will take few times of minor adjustments when the harness is new before everything will lay flat and conform to the body. Then it is a simple task to put the harness on and take it off.

How to use Harness

When walking your pet use your wrist action along with verbal commands for controlling your pet. 99% of pets respond immediately to the pressure applied from the use of your wrist in an up and down motion. If you have a hyperactive type of pet, it will take a few minutes for them to settle into a normal walking routine.
